India Announces Squad for Mens T20 World Cup 2024

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the 15-player squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, with Rohit Sharma leading the team’s quest for the coveted trophy.

The wicketkeeper selection had been a topic of much speculation, with Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson ultimately being entrusted with the role. This marks the return of Pant to international cricket for the first time since a near-fatal accident in December 2022 that kept him on the sidelines for over a year.

Shivam Dube’s impressive IPL form has earned him a place in the squad, with the 30-year-old amassing 350 runs in nine matches at a strike rate of 172.41. India has opted for a spin-heavy bowling lineup, consisting of Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Yuzvendra Chahal, while the pace battery will be led by Jasprit Bumrah, with Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, and vice-captain Hardik Pandya providing support.

There were no surprises in the selection of the batters, with Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, and Suryakumar Yadav expected to shore up the top order alongside captain Rohit. Shubman Gill and Rinku Singh have only found a place amongst the reserves, along with pacers Khaleel Ahmed and Avesh Khan.

A notable omission from India’s list is KL Rahul, who was part of India’s last two T20 World Cup campaigns in 2021 and 2022.

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 is scheduled to be held in Australia later this year, and India will be looking to clinch their second title in the tournament’s history. With a formidable squad at their disposal, India will be one of the favorites to win the tournament.

In conclusion, India has announced a strong squad for the T20 World Cup, with a good balance of youth and experience. The team will be looking to put their best foot forward and bring home the trophy.
