Tata Motors: After Nexon EV, Tata Punch EV launch soon: Design, expected range, battery and more

Tata Motors, the renowned Indian automaker, is gearing up to introduce the eagerly awaited Tata Nexon EV and the anticipated Tata Punch EV, marking the company’s continued commitment to the electric vehicle (EV) market. With the impending launch of these new electric offerings, Tata Motors aims to enhance its position as a frontrunner in the EV segment.

Unveiling of Updated Tata Nexon and Nexon EV

Tata Motors recently revealed the revamped version of its popular compact SUV, the Tata Nexon. Alongside this, the company has announced that the new Nexon EV will make its debut on September 7th, 2023. The upcoming Nexon EV, sporting Tata’s new “.ev” branding, is expected to hit the market by October 2023, generating excitement among EV enthusiasts.

Design and Expected Range of Nexon EV

Taking design inspiration from the Tata Curvv concept EV, the Nexon EV will feature a modern aesthetic. At the front, a sleek LED light bar complements the closed-off grille, presenting a futuristic and dynamic appearance. The rear end might showcase V-shaped LED taillamps connected by LED light bars, echoing the design cues of the internal combustion engine (ICE) variant of the Nexon. Two battery options are anticipated for the Nexon EV – a 30.2 kWh and a 40.5 kWh battery pack. These options are projected to offer impressive ranges of up to 312 km and 453 km, respectively, on a single charge.

The Arrival of Tata Punch EV

Following the debut of the Nexon EV, Tata Motors is expected to introduce the Punch EV to its EV lineup. The Punch EV has been spotted undergoing testing on Indian roads, and its production-ready appearance suggests a forthcoming launch. Aligning with Tata’s “.ev” branding strategy, the Punch EV will be named Punch.ev, marking the fifth addition to Tata’s electric vehicle offerings.

Design and Features of Punch EV

To distinguish itself from its internal combustion counterpart, the Punch.ev will feature distinctive exterior and interior elements. Expect electric-themed styling elements and a striking Electric-specific Teal Blue shade, characterized by a tri-arrow design and the iconic ‘humanity’ line grille, consistent with other Tata EVs. The front bumper will likely house the charging port, while aerodynamically designed alloy wheels reminiscent of the Tiago EV might adorn the sides.

Inside the cabin, the Punch EV is set to retain the essence of its petrol-powered variant, incorporating a dark-toned interior with EV-inspired color detailing. Electric blue accents will grace the instrument panel, air conditioning vents, and seat fabric, featuring a tri-arrow pattern consistent with Tata’s EV design language.

Powertrain and Performance

Under the hood, the Punch EV is expected to be equipped with a 24 kWh battery pack mated to a PMSM electric motor, generating 65 horsepower. This configuration promises a range of approximately 250 km on a single full charge, making it a compelling option for urban commuting and short trips.

As Tata Motors embarks on this electrifying journey with the Nexon EV and Punch EV, the company continues to drive innovation and sustainability within the Indian automotive market.
