Irrfan Khan, a legendary and influential actor in Bollywood, left an indelible mark on the industry during his three-decade-long career. Unfortunately, in 2020, he tragically passed away at a young age due to cancer. Now, his son Babil Khan, following in his father’s footsteps, is carrying forward his legacy. In an exclusive interview with Pinkvilla, Babil opens up about his father and his own journey in the film industry.
Reflecting on his Father’s Absence
Babil was asked about his earlier comments regarding not being able to discuss his work with his father. He clarifies, “He left before he could see me grow. He left before I could make him proud, you know. I wish he was there to see where I have come as a human being, not professionally, just as a human being.”
Babil’s Script Choices and the Pressure of Following in his Father’s Footsteps
When asked if he thinks about how his father would react to his script choices, Babil responds, “No bro, abhi pehle hi kitta pressure hai.” (No bro, I already have a lot of pressure).” He also shares his journey in the industry, revealing that “Qala” was his first film and “Friday Night Plan” was his fourth. He acknowledges that during “Qala,” the absence of his father’s protection left him scared, but now he feels more empowered to explore different characters and execute his ideas.
Babil’s Filmography and Future Projects
In 2022, Babil’s debut film “Qala” was released on OTT platforms. Directed by Anvita Dutt, the film received critical acclaim for its performances and soundtrack. Babil’s next project is the coming-of-age comedy-drama “Friday Night Plan,” co-starring Medha Rana and Juhi Chawla. The film is set to premiere on Netflix on September 1st.
