In a recent event, renowned filmmaker Karan Johar openly discussed Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming film “Emergency.” During The Indian Express’ Express Adda session, a question prompted Karan to express his excitement about a political event featured in a film. He stated, “I’m looking forward to watching ‘Emergency’ as it’s being made.” Scheduled for a November 2023 release, the movie stars Kangana Ranaut portraying the former Indian Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. However, Kangana’s response to Karan’s remark unveils underlying tensions.
Kangana’s Concerns Emerge
A comment on Twitter ignited the interaction. The comment read, “Really? Change of heart.” In response, Kangana Ranaut tweeted, “Ha ha last time, when he said he was excited to see Manikarnika, the worst smear campaign of my life was unleashed upon me on its releasing weekend…”
Kangana further elaborated, “Almost all main actors working in the film were paid to sling mud on me and sabotage the film, and suddenly the most successful weekend of my life turned into a living nightmare for me… Ha ha, I am scared now, very scared… because he is excited again…”
Revisiting the Manikarnika Controversy
The tumultuous history between Kangana and Karan resurfaced. In 2019, director Krish accused Kangana of wresting control over the film “Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi” (2019). Krish’s removal from the project led Kangana to claim credit as co-director after reshooting substantial portions. However, in an interview with SpotboyE, Krish challenged her claim, revealing, “Kangana has done 20-25 percent of the first half and 10-15 percent in the second half.”
Krish added, “Kangana even told me that Zee Studios didn’t like what I had made. It was looking like a Bhojpuri film. I laughed. People know my previous work. We argued, but she wanted things her own way. I just couldn’t understand.” Mishti Chakravarty, an actor from “Manikarnika,” also criticized Kangana in 2019, expressing dissatisfaction with her role’s reduction and stating she wouldn’t have taken the role if she knew Kangana was directing.
The Karan Johar-Kangana Ranaut Feud
Karan and Kangana’s public feud has garnered attention over the years. Their exchanges, both in interviews and on social media, have been marked by tension. The feud’s origins trace back to Kangana’s accusation of nepotism on the fifth season of “Koffee With Karan.”
During the show, Kangana remarked, “In my biopic, if ever it’s made, you’ll play that stereotypical Bollywood biggie who is snooty and completely intolerant towards outsiders, a flagbearer of nepotism, the movie mafia.”
The complex history between Karan Johar and Kangana Ranaut continues to intrigue both the media and their respective fan bases.
