The 95th Academy Awards saw a remarkable achievement by the Tamil documentary, The Elephant Whisperers, which became the first-ever Indian production to win the Documentary Short Subject category. The victory at the Oscars 2023 is a significant moment for the Indian film industry.

During her acceptance speech, Gonsalves expressed gratitude to the Academy, her family, and producer Guneet Monga. She dedicated the historic win to her motherland India.
“I stand here today to speak for the sacred bond between us and our natural world, for the respect of indigenous communities, and empathy towards other living beings we share space with and finally, for coexistence,” Gonsalves said in her acceptance speech.

The documentary, with a runtime of 39 minutes, is an emotional portrayal of the deep bond between two orphaned elephant calves, Raghu and Amu, and their caretakers, Bomman and Belli. The Elephant Whisperers is produced by Guneet Monga and Achin Jain from Sikhya Entertainment.
