Renowned Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan has entered the discourse surrounding India’s proposed name change. In recent news, the government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is reportedly considering the removal of the word “India” from the Constitution, opting to designate the country’s official name as ‘Bharat.’
Taking to his official X (formerly known as Twitter) account on Tuesday (September 5), the revered actor shared his stance on the matter.
In his tweet, Bachchan wrote, “भारत माता की जय,” accompanied by the Indian flag emoticon, symbolizing his endorsement of the name change.
As his post made waves, admirers praised Bachchan for supporting the transition of India’s name to ‘Bharat.’ Nonetheless, a segment of users responded with criticism, labeling him as ‘spineless’ for his political standpoint. Some even questioned whether his tweet was a ‘paid’ endorsement.
