Free Fire India makes a comeback
Free Fire, one of the top battle royale games, which was banned by the Indian government in February 2022 due to security concerns, has made a comeback. Garena, a Singaporean global online games developer and publisher, announced the launch of Free Fire India on August 31. The company will make the game available for download exclusively in India from September 5.
Exclusive Indian App with Updated Content
Free Fire India will be an India-exclusive app with content and features specifically designed for the Indian market, according to Vaibhav Das Mundhra, Senior Manager and Game Producer at Garena.
MS Dhoni becomes the brand ambassador
Garena has roped in MS Dhoni as the brand ambassador for Free Fire India. Dhoni will be the first Indian sportsperson to feature in the game as a playable character called “Thala.” Other leading sportspersons such as Sunil Chhetri, Saina Nehwal, Leander Paes, and Rahul Chaudhari will join him in the game.
Ensuring Safe and Fun Gameplay
In addition to features and content developed specifically for Indian users, Garena has implemented a range of safety features to promote safe, healthy, and enjoyable gameplay. These include a verification system for parental supervision, gameplay limitations, and “take a break” reminders.
Data Security Partnership with Yotta
In order to address data security concerns of Indian users, Garena has partnered with Yotta, a Hiranandani Group company specialized in digital transformation services. Yotta will provide local cloud hosting and storage infrastructure for Free Fire India. As an empanelled service provider of the Ministry of Electronics & information technology, Yotta ensures best-in-class management of personal data on local servers and network connectivity services to support Garena’s product offerings in India, including esports.
Ensuring Secure Data Handling
Garena emphasizes that they collect minimal user data and will work closely with Yotta to ensure compliance with local regulations and secure handling of data.
