Apple’s Mega Event: iPhone 15 Series and New AirPods with USB-C Charging Port

Apple is all set to host its mega event on September 12. The Cupertino-giant is all set to launch the next iPhone 15 series. Along with the iPhone 15, Apple is also speculated to launch the AirPods with USB-C charging port. This year the iPhone 15 series will include the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max, which can also be called as the iPhone 15 Ultra. Apart from that, the company could also launch the Apple Watch 9 series.

New AirPods with USB-C Charging Case

According to analyst Ming Chi Kuo, Apple is gearing up to introduce new AirPods with a USB-C charging case during the September 12th event. This move aligns with the new iPhones that are expected to adopt USB-C ports, signaling a departure from the Lightning port.

Possibilities and Speculations

Although specific details about the new AirPods are scarce in the report, it does confirm the focus on a USB-C charging case. The exact AirPods model that will receive this update is not explicitly mentioned—whether it’s the regular AirPods or the AirPods Pro. Notably, the second-generation AirPods Pro arrived in September 2022 alongside the iPhone 14 series, while the AirPods 3 debuted in October 2021. Both versions are now ripe for an upgrade.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first instance of rumors surrounding AirPods with USB-C charging. Earlier this year, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted the release of AirPods Pro 2 with USB-C in the near future. Clues also emerged in the iOS 16.4 developer beta version, further fueling these speculations. Kuo’s predictions are notably directed towards the AirPods Pro 2, hinting at the possibility of only an upgrade to the charging case, with the core features remaining unchanged.

Kuo further hinted that the AirPods 2 and AirPods 3 might not receive the USB-C treatment, emphasizing that this advancement could be exclusive to the ‘Pro’ model, coinciding with the iPhone 15 launch event. These clues point toward a scenario where the focus is solely on refreshing the charging case for the AirPods Pro, without any significant feature upgrades. Nevertheless, the exact details of Apple’s plans are set to be unveiled with the official release.
